I am a self-taught artist, but as I discovered early on, I am color blind (red-green). As my love for drawing grew, I gave up on color altogether. I used pencil for the longest time before discovering black pen. As you may know, the body compensates for things it lacks. Blind people often have better hearing, and in my case, I developed (or was born with?) a natural ability to see and understand perspective and shading (contrast). Each image I do takes between 15 and 25 hours to complete. The images start with a rough pencil sketch and then, still working in pencil, I add more detail and make certain angles and lines are correct in a small area. Once I am confident that it is the way I want them, I will ink in the image completely free-hand. I rarely use rulers except to check my work.
I live outside Portland Oregon. I show my work primarily at Portland's Saturday Market, located downtown Portland, under the Burnside Bridge. You can usually find me there most (but not all) Saturdays between March and October and the occasional Sunday.
